Jan Kubek

today,i tried out a Jan Kubek violin. i din jot which model it was. i'll update it here when i get to see it again.

The Jan Kubek violin.

the pegs are nice. i did not try the pegs. so, i cant comment on them.

the back of the violin... it's a one piece.

the inside of it....

Comments :
1. the G, D , A strings are warm and full. it's much more fuller than the Hofner violin. i love it alot especially the G string. Just little vibrato and u can make ppl cry. it's very warm and mellow.

2. the E string is abit too sharp for me. I still prefer Hofner's E string. or..maybe it's the strings that makes the difference. the Dominant strings on Hofner suits my taste more. The E string is so sharp and rough tat makes me dun feel like playing on it's open string at all. this can force me to use my 4th finger. the strings used are warchal strings. very very high quality strings.

3. the touch is nice. soft. but, i still prefer Hofner's touch.

Overall: it'll be under my consideration list. Hofner will still appear as first now until i try Dominant strings on this Jan Kubek violin.

Estimated Price : RM 21,000 - 25,000

hi Elizabeth
Where did you try your Jan Kubek? I recently bought one -- I liked it best among the 5 I had taken home on trial. The 5 included a Hoffner, another Kubek and a Ling Hua. I couldn't however, find any literature on the maker. My violin has a one-piece back and and has the maker's name scratched into the wood at the back. Its list price was RM22k. I was told it is partially handmade. Do you know anything more about these instruments. Pauline
